About playbrief

playbrief was born out of an everyday problem: keeping up with the gaming world meant opening five different tabs every day — IGN for the news, a Discord server for release dates, a third site to double-check which platform a game is actually coming to. No single site felt like a good place to just open and get a quick, honest picture of what is going on.

So the site was built to solve that, not to become yet another news site among a hundred others. The front page gathers headlines from several established sources in one place, with filters for platform and source if you only want to see what is actually relevant. The release list in the sidebar is built on real data from IGDB, sorted by what actually seems to be anticipated — not just an arbitrary list of everything that happens to launch soonest.

The design is deliberately restrained. No autoplaying video, no newsletter pop-ups that appear before you have had a chance to read a headline, no made-up “X readers” numbers to make something look popular. If a number is shown on the site, it is either real or not there at all.

playbrief is a side project, built and maintained by one person in the evenings and on weekends — not a newsroom. You can tell from the pace: updates and new features arrive when there is time, not on any editorial schedule. What you see is what actually exists, nothing more.

The news feed aggregates headlines and excerpts from their original sources and always links through to the original article — I do not rewrite news from other outlets or pretend to be the ones who broke it. Beyond that, I will also publish our own texts over time: analyses, reviews and commentary written directly for playbrief, not pulled from anywhere else.
